So, last week I got my first pass edits for The Winter People! Woot-woot. I’m hard at work as we speak on trying to get those bad boys cranked out. First pass edits are normally the hardest. This is the time when your editor sends you an editorial letter (or perhaps an editorial tome—LOL) depending on what needs to be done.
My editorial letter—4 ½ nearly five pages long. EEEK. Which, in the grand scheme of things really isn’t so bad. And there wasn’t anything HUGE or earth shattering that needs to be fixed. Most of the characterizations were good, so that in itself was awesome. I get to add some scenes with a character I’m seriously madly in love with (hehehe), also need to clarify a few things…but yeah, so far, so good.
I think there was one “bigger” thing I needed to address in this book, which will link into something that we find out more about in the 3rd book. But, the big trick will be trying to let the reader in on some of it, without giving everything away now. And it also answers several questions as to why my character or her family isn’t doing certain things.
The hardest part of this process though is trying to figure out where to cut things and where the additional scenes/chapters will need to be added. So, anyway, that’s what’s happening on the writing front. Editing. Revising. Making story pretty for its late 2013 release.
This week basketball season starts for my daughter. We’ll be doing the crazy busy running stuff again—but it’s fun to watch her play. So I foresee many long nights in my future.
We also have band/orchestra concerts coming up in the next week to two weeks for the kidlets too. And of course, we have to find some time in here to get our tree up (ahh, how is it almost Christmas).
I hope everyone had a FABULOUS Thanksgiving.
