Hey my lovelies,
I hope everyone has been having a FAB summer. Mine has been speeding by…the kidlets have been busy with band camp and soccer stuff and college application stuff and my step daughter got engaged (SQUEEEE)! Lots to celebrate!

On the book front I’m in the midst of starting the 3rd and final Winter People book. I have lots of cool stuff planned to give it a proper “sendoff” / ending (LOL). I’ve outlined a good portion of it, but will also be working on Legend of Me edits over the next 1-2 months as well. YEP YOU HEARD RIGHT!! Legend of Me WILL see the light of day hopefully in the next 6-12 months (I know still a wait). My new editor and I talked a little bit about some things with the book and I’m really happy with our ideas. So the fun part is to come (the rewriting/editing).

Oh and before I forget, in less than two weeks The Winter People ebook will be going on a sale (BIG SALE)—LOL…and I’ll be running some contests during that time, so make sure to check back in with me during the next few weeks for announcements. Also, we have about 1 month until the release of The Summer Marked (Winter People bk 2) and I’m SO SO SO excited to have everyone read it. I poured everything into this book and hope you all love it as much as I do. There are more horror elements in this book and new characters that I’m excited for everyone to meet.

And don’t forget that there is still a Goodreads Giveaway going on for The Summer Marked. My publisher has 2 hard cover copies up for grabs…: Enter here: https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/151068-the-summer-marked

June has kind of come out of nowhere! Seriously. We’re nearing the end of soccer season here in the Purdy house. We have two games this weekend, then we have tournament Friday-Sunday next weekend (well depending on how well the kids’ teams do—LOL). But at least 3 games each (so that’s 6 games we’ll have to be at for sure). GAH. But it’s super fun to watch them play!

I’m still working on writing the sequel to Legend of Me. Just finished a REALLY tough scene. Hoping to get this on cranked out by July, at which point I’ll need to start writing The Winter People bk 3. Also have like 3 side projects I want to work on, but I have to get all my contracted stuff written first…

Oh and for those of you going to ALA, I’ve sent out some signed Winter People bookmarks (they’re really sweet looking) that’ll be at the Entangled table. They’ll also have some ARCS on hand for those of you who want to get your hands on TWP before it releases in September.

I’m getting super pumped about vacation, which is coming up in August. Can’t wait to hike and camp. And have a break from the day job (LOL). So yeah, I’ll be counting down to that.

REALLY hoping to get out this weekend to see The Fault in Our Stars—but not sure if my schedule will allow for it or not. If you guys haven’t read the book this movie is based off of, GO NOW AND GET IT. Super awesome. You will laugh. You will cry. You will go through lots of tissue.

Hope you all have a FABULOUS weekend!!

Orange Flames

Phew, well, I’m back from “deadline hell”. LOL. Had to get a book cranked out, which is due in April. And yes, I wrote that thing in like a month. Yes, I know, that’s TOTALLY crazy. HA! It’ll be my 2nd ya contemporary I’ve written, and it is a follow-up to (not a sequel) The Romeo Club, which will now release on April 8th, 2014. Why yes, I have been on a contemporary kick lately. But seriously, the book was a TON of fun to write. Hope my editor loves it as much as I do.

Also wanted to catch up with everyone because I’ve gotten a few emails in regards to The Legend of Me, which was originally supposed to have been released by now. I know the last time I did an update on it, we’d been looking at possibly January 2014 (which has obviously come and gone). Well, right now, the release date is kind of a “floater” meaning, I don’t have one yet. The thing is, I write for various publishers, and with my contracts, I can’t have books release too close together from different publishers. In other words, I can’t have a book release from publisher A today, then in a week, have a book release from Publisher B because then those titles would be “competing”.  And because the Legend of Me release date got moved, it was too close to a book I had coming out with another publisher. So, it is now floating (in space—LOL—just kidding), and my publisher will let me know probably about 1-2 months in advance of when it’s going to release. But I promise you, Legend will eventually release.

I will hopefully, soon, have more AWESOME news to share. News I’ve been sitting on for a few weeks now. Just waiting for an email to come through giving me the go ahead to share. Oh, and pretty soon (May, I think), I’ll start seeing Arcs (advance reader copies) for The Winter People! SQUEEE….how exciting is that? I have one book signing scheduled so far in September  (you can see my news page for that info).

Otherwise, I’ve been staying mondo busy. I’ll be getting back to writing The Legend of Me bk 2, and also getting ready to jump into The Winter People bk 3 soon. So the crazy writing schedule will continue.

Oh, and before I forget (because I’m good at that—hehehe), I will be posting my book blog tour info next week for The Romeo Club (squee). During the blog tour and also the week of my release, I’ll have some contests running for people to enter to win “Nerd Packs” for The Romeo Club! I’ll also be giving away signed bookmarks etc. So stay tuned for that.

Hope you’re surviving the winter. It’s been rough. Hoping Spring will “arrive” soon (LOL). ((HUGS))…talk to you all again soon!!

Okay, so I have some release date changes (I know, I know–this has happened a couple of times now–LOL). The Winter People will now be releasing in September of 2014 (September 2, 2014 to be exact). There are a couple of reasons for this change. The big one: THE WINTER PEOPLE IS GOING TO BE COMING OUT IN HARD COVER!!!!! Yes, you read that correctly! HARD COVER!! OMG!!!! The cover for it is going to get a really cool treatment and Arcs will likely be available at ALA (which I’m being encouraged to attend to sign some books for everyone–woot-woot…still working out the details on that though).

The release date wasn’t changed just because of the hard cover thing, but also due to the fact that this book is set in winter so it made more sense for it to come out in Fall time frame (LOL). This book should be available in most bookstores (which is totally awesome).

Also because I’m working with various publishers, they have to make sure that my titles, which are all releasing in the same year aren’t competing with one another, which is why The Romeo Club will now be released at the end of March 2014 instead of May. And I don’t have my new date for The Legend of Me yet, but yeah, trust me, all these switches are just as hard for me as they are for you. But they all make sense and I hope the wait will be well worth it for everyone!

I have to thank everyone who has added my books on goodreads, messaged me about their excitement for the stories/covers, and helped take part in my cover reveals these past couple of weeks. You guys are TOTALLY AWESOME and FAB!!! ((HUGS))…

But yeah, that’s my good news! TWP in hard cover 9/2014!!!

Can’t wait for everyone to meet the characters!! And look at the cover quote that Renee Collins (RT nominated author of Relic) did for me for Legend–squeeeee…..

About the Book

Author: Rebekah Purdy

Release Date: Early 2014

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Sixteen-year-old Brielle has grown up hearing tales of a beast that kills humans, leaving behind only a scattering of bones and limbs. Or so the village elders say. She thinks it’s just their way of keeping children in line, though it doesn’t explain her grisly premonitions of blood, claws, and severed heads.

When Lord Kenrick, Knight of the Crowhurst Order, shows up asking questions about the legendary monster and Brielle finds a mangled body in the woods, she begins to wonder if the grim stories are true. Her attraction to the handsome knight grows as she spends time with him searching for clues to the creature’s existence, and she becomes even more determined to help him discover the beast’s location.

But as her seventeenth birthday approaches, her nightmares worsen. If Brielle doesn’t figure out the connection between Kenrick, the monster, and visions of a ghostly woman in the woods soon, more people could die. Including those closest to her…

Brambles scratched my legs, snagging my skirt. Gnarled trees bent in gruesome forms, while thick shadows splayed out beneath them. A heavy gloom settled over the woodland as wisps of fog slithered like snakes against the ground. I shivered.

Don’t think. I picked an animal trail to follow, stepping over dead branches and forest debris. Blood pounded in my ears and the hair on the back of my neck prickled. I twisted around to glance behind me.

Nothing there. Only the trees. Urgency gripped hold of me and I picked up my pace once more. As I scrambled through the thicket, an overwhelming scent of rotten meat made me gag. I covered my mouth with my hand and stopped running when a bright red piece of fabric caught my eye. With hesitant steps, I moved toward it.

“Oh God.” I stumbled. There, sticking out from beneath a barberry bush was a severed arm, its finger pointed at me in accusation. My breath came in gasps as I scanned the rest of the clearing.

My foot nudged against something and I looked down in horror to find the head of Liam Gatekeeper staring up at me.

I screamed, backing away as fast as I could. All around me were pieces of his body scattered like breadcrumbs. I shielded my eyes with my hands, until I bumped into something else.

With another scream, I whipped around only to find myself faced with an oak tree covered in dried blood and deep claw marks. My vision darkened and I prayed I wouldn’t faint, that I wouldn’t be stuck in the woods. Because somewhere out here, a monster lurked. If I didn’t believe it before, I did now. The beast was real.

An engrossing, complex, romantic fantasy perfect for fans of Kristin Cashore or Maggie Stiefvater, set in a wholly unique world.

Salome Montgomery fears winter—the cold, the snow, the ice, but most of all, the frozen pond she fell through as a child. Haunted by the voices and images of the strange beings that pulled her to safety, she hasn’t forgotten their warning to “stay away.” For eleven years, she has avoided the winter woods, the pond, and the darkness that lurks nearby. But when failing health takes her grandparents to Arizona, she is left in charge of maintaining their estate. This includes the “special gifts” that must be left at the back of the property.

Salome discovers she’s a key player in a world she’s tried for years to avoid. At the center of this world is the strange and beautiful Nevin, who she finds trespassing on her family’s property. Cursed with dark secrets and knowledge of the creatures in the woods, his interactions with Salome take her life in a new direction. A direction where she’ll have to decide between her longtime crush Colton, who could cure her fear of winter. Or Nevin who, along with an appointed bodyguard, Gareth, protects her from the darkness that swirls in the snowy backdrop. An evil that, given the chance, will kill her.

The sky darkened with ominous storm clouds. Giant flakes fell onto my face, sticking to my eyelashes and cheeks. Snow blew unhindered across the yard into what looked like small tornadoes.

Oh God. It’s happening again. The frigid air. The creaking of the treetops beneath the wind. Even the way the snow blew across the yard.

I only had one more feeder. Just needed to toss the seeds in then I could leave. Be safe.

The pond water rippled, while the trees bent beneath the strong gusts. Soon, everything became so white I couldn’t see the house. In the distance a strange tinkling sounded, like dozens of wind chimes.

What had the shrink told me to do?

Ten, nine, eight. Breathe. Seven, six, five. Shit!

Panic stole my thoughts. I backed away from the pond as the flurries swirled toward me. Chasing me.

Then, I bumped into something—something that felt quite human. A firm chest, arms, hands. Not something, someone. A shriek tumbled from my lips and I spun around to face my captor.

“It’s okay. I won’t hurt you,” a soft masculine voice said, pale hands clinging to my arms as he kept me from falling.

My gaze followed those long fingers, up black leather sleeves, to the most gorgeous face I’d ever seen. My breath caught in my throat. I’m gawking. But I couldn’t help it. His raven hair shot with strands of blue, his face pale and perfect, like an ice sculptor had chiseled it into existence. His eyes—oh God, his eyes. They were the palest blue I’d ever seen. Glacial. He had to be over six feet tall, muscles evident through the tight shirt he wore beneath an unzipped jacket.

His mouth turned up at the corners as if enjoying my scrutiny. A cocky grin that made my cheeks warm.

“You’re trespassing.” I tried to keep the tremble from my voice. “This is private property, or can’t you read the signs?” Bravo, that’s right, scare him off with your bitchiness.

He chuckled. And it sounded like the low song of the chimes. “Doris doesn’t mind me coming around. In fact, I’ve met you before, Salome.”

My name on his lips made my knees go buttery. I groaned inwardly.

“You know my grandma?” I fidgeted with the bucket still in hand.

He gave a nod. “Yeah, I’ve known her for years. But I haven’t seen you since you were a child.”

Warning bells went off in my mind, but I pushed them aside. If he knew my grandma, then he must be okay. “Funny, I don’t remember you at all.”

“Don’t you, Salome?” Strands of my hair blew about my face. He reached a hand out as if to touch them then stopped, dropping his arms back to his side.

“No. Grandma’s never mentioned you.”

He gave me another cocky grin. “Well then, maybe we should be reacquainted.”

“Or maybe not.” I snorted. “I’m not sure how you got on the property, Grandma keeps all the gates locked.”

He produced an antique-looking skeleton key. “She gave me this. Like I said, Doris has known me for a long time.”

“I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be a jerk or anything, it’s just my grandma never mentioned I’d have visitors.” In fact, I wondered why she didn’t ask this guy to watch her house instead of me.

The arrogance left his face and he stared at me. “Perhaps, we can try this again.” He held his hand out to me. “I’m Nevin.”

Phew, August flew by. Seriously can’t believe we’re already into September. The kidlets went back to school last week, and soccer of course is in FULL THROTTLE (ahhh). LOL. So, anyway, I have a little information for everyone. The Legend of Me (my YA Fantasy/w/horror elements) has a tentative release date of December 20th or 21st 2013 (woot-woot). Which is right around the corner! I’ll be posting up the back cover blurb/cover stuff closer to release date.

I’m in the process of starting book 2 right now and have lots of cool ideas in store for it. My agent and I will also be subbing out some other stories too (yay). Very excited.

Need to start catching up on my TBR pile. I think I have like 15-16 books in it right now (they’re sitting on the back of my headboard for my bed right now). LOL.

So glad we’re into Fall. It’s my favorite season…hope everyone is doing well!!!! Will post more book info as I get it ((HUGS))…

Okay, so this was my first week back after a loooong vacation (LOL). It was SO hard coming back to the real world after spending almost two weeks in the wilderness. We did a lot of hiking, swimming, kayaking, campfires, and well, just having fun. It was nice to spend actual time with my family. During most of the year between my day job, hubby’s job, and the kids school/sports/music stuff,  we rarely see one another.

Right now, I’m waiting for my 2nd round edits to come through for Legend of Me. This one is supposed to release later fall early winter (so pretty soon). I’ve been making REALLY slow progress on a summer YA contemp. I managed to write a chapter on vacation (long hand, in the woods–LOL), but yeah, since coming home I haven’t had any time to focus on anything other than running for kidlets and day job stuff.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed your summer and continue to enjoy what’s left of it. And now, I leave you with a few pics from my vacation to the UP of Michigan. Lots of beautiful scenery up there…miles of beaches, woodland, and countryside.

Door Under the Cut River Bridge (yes it really says T. Troll). LOL

I’m SO happy to announce that my agent Jenn Mishler at Literary Counsel sold my YA Fantasy The Legend of Me in a three book deal to Liz Pelletier at Entangled Teen through their digiTeen imprint, with a tentative publication date of December 2013. I’ve been sitting on this news since February and it was KILLING ME (LOL). But at least now I can share it with the world.

That means I’m gonna have at least 6 books coming out in the next few years (between The Winter People series and now The Legend of Me series). That’s a lot of writing/books. Of those 6 books, I’ve got three already written, but 3 more to go (ah).

It’s so awesome to think that a few years ago, I was struggling to get an agent, and now I have book deals to blog about. I’m just so humbled and happy and overwhelmed. And I have to thank my lovely crit group, writing friends, and my lovely agent who’ve championed my stories and kept me from totally freaking out (LOL). Can’t wait for everyone to read these two series. I hope you’ll love the characters, stories, and settings as much as I do.

As soon as the official PM comes out with the info about the book, I’ll post it here.
