OMG, so happy to have my agent mates, F.J.R and Matt’s AWESOME new cover revealed on my blog today for their YA, Horror, Sci-Fi book,  Splinters (book 1 in The Prospero Chronicles), which has a tentative release of Fall 2014. Check it out (and make sure you enter their contest).

Splinters Cover

Back cover blurb:

Under ordinary circumstances, Ben and Mina would never have had reason to speak to each other; he’s an easy-going people person with a healthy skepticism about the paranormal, and she’s a dangerously obsessive monster-hunter with a crippling fear of betrayal. But the small town of Prospero, California, has no ordinary circumstances to offer. In order to uncover a plot set by the seemingly innocent but definitely shapeshifting monsters-that-look-like-friends-family-and-neighbors, the two stark opposites must both find ways to put aside their differences and learn to trust each other.

Carter and Titchenell head shot

Author bio:

F.J.R. Titchenell and Matt Carter met and fell in love in a musical theatre class at Pasadena City College and have been inseparable ever since. Though they have both dreamed of being writers since a very young age, they both truly hit their stride after they met, bouncing ideas off of one another, forcing each other to strive to be better writers, and mingling Matt’s lifelong love of monsters with Fiona’s equally disturbing inability to forget the tumult of high school. They were married in 2011 in a ceremony that involved kilts, Star Wars music, and a cake topped by figurines of them fighting a zombified wedding party.

F.J.R. Titchenell is also the author of Confessions of the Very First Zombie Slayer (That I Know of), to be released May 6th, 2014 (link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18722335-confessions-of-the-very-first-zombie-slayer)

Personally, I think there are things in the world that (as Hamlet would say) “are in our philosophy.” Here’s my freaky story:

When I was in middle school/junior high, my family moved into this really, really old house. I remember our first night there. My sister and I shared a room at the time and it was right across the hall from the attic. At that time, the house had been gutted so there were slats in the wall where you could actually see into the attic. That night, when we tried to fall asleep, we heard footsteps coming from the attic. We totally freaked out. Then, through the slats we saw glowing red eyes peer out at us. Holy CRAP! I was so scared. We screamed for our dad.  He came upstairs, however, he said it must’ve been the taillights from a car. Um—that side of the house didn’t face the street and the attic was so long there’s no way you’d be able to see the lights that high up. To this day, I still don’t know what it was. But we used to hear footsteps in there all the time, until my parents turned it into a family room.

About a year or two later my parents had went into town to the store and left me in charge of my brother and sister. I was doing dishes in the kitchen, when I heard a knock on the side-porch door. I went to answer it, but no one was there. So I thought maybe I was hearing things. Once more, I went back to doing dishes and again, I heard a knock. Thinking someone was messing with me, I whipped open the door and checked outside, but no one was there. As I went inside, and shut the door I caught a reflection in the window of something standing behind me, but when I turned around, there was no one there.

A year after that, right before we moved my mom and I were downstairs doing some housework. My sister was upstairs playing in her room and my brother and dad had gone into town. All of a sudden, we heard my sister scream. She came racing downstairs and told us that someone had turned off her light and touched her leg. At first, my mom and I didn’t believe her. Then we heard footsteps run across the floor upstairs and the sound of a little kid laughing. FREAKIEST THING EVER!!!

What about you?

Once you’ve read through things here, make sure you stop by Vanessa’s blog for more chances to win!
